Congratulations!! 🎉

My own book took two months to research, one month to write, and then three months for the "final revision," after which I put it on the web. And then it took nearly a year more to self-publish as a paperback. Due partly to having been pretty sick all that time, but also all of the logistical hassles involved in that process. And, of course, *two* more rounds of revision :( It's grueling, and I'm glad (on multiple counts) that you are just about there!

> It does feel like this book should have come out five years ago, and now conventional wisdom have caught up somewhat.

Yes, I have drafts of a lot of cultural commentary from 5, 10, and 15 years ago that would have been ahead of its time if I'd finished and published then. And most of it is now either obvious to everyone, or else is about cultural phenomena that no longer exist and no one cares about any more.

FWIW, I think you made the right decision to self-publish. Unless a publisher strongly believes they'll sell tens of thousands of copies, they'll give you nearly no support, in return for taking nearly all the profit.

I like your new introduction :) Yay!

> Historically, there’s not a straightforward relationship between how proud/satisfied I am with something and how popular or well-received it is by others.

I am utterly baffled by this in my own case. My most-read pieces are all things I threw together in an afternoon. The stuff I'm most proud of, no one ever looks at.

I suppose the lesson is that one should publish some half-baked thing every day. Some percentage of them will go viral for no apparent reason, and if you spew enough out, you'll have an endless stream of hits (among the dross). In fact, that seems to be exactly what the most successful online writers do! I am not willing.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your release announcement, and will publicize it everywhere when it arrives!

I’ve been waiting for this book for like 3 years now! Glad that you’re ending the final phase. And even though I’m also a nobody, I’ll try my best to pass it around to a couple of friends who might be interested :)
